Tuscan provinces
Administratively Tuscany is divided into ten provinces: Florence, Siena, Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia, Livorno, Grosseto, Lucca, Massa-Carrara and Prato. Geographically, Tuscany is bordered by the Apuan Alps to the north, The Appennines to the east and the Mediterranean to the west. A few hours drive can bring vast changes in scenery all over Tuscany. What foreign people don't know is quite what an enormous diversity of landscape and society there is within Tuscany. A Tuscan is loyal above all to his village, his area. Rivalries run old and deep, and whereas nowadays the arguments range from who produces the best oil, wine and (above all), best football team within Tuscany, in times past this competition manifested itself through patronage of the arts.
