Siena: it does not matter from which direction you get to Siena: it will be a surprise when you will suddenly note the medieval town appearing among the green sloping hills dominated by huge farmhouses, perfectly integrated in this landscape. The starting point of a sightseeing tour is always the Piazza del Campo, the shell shaped central square once the market area while today is where each year rival neighbourhoods complete in the "Palio", the horserace around its perimeter. We suggest to visit the adjacent Palazzo Pubblico or town hall where you can enjoy frescoes by Simone Martini and Lorenzetti before ascending the bell Tower del Mangia for a panoramic view of the city and countryside. From there it's a short walk to the big green and white striped Duomo, with its paintings by Pinturicchio, sculptures by Bernini, and the famous "Pergamo" sculpted by Nicola Pisano. Siena is also famous for the wine production: don't forget to try the famous Chianti Classico , the Brunello di Montalcino, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the Vernaccia di San Gimignano. The country around Siena is one of the most beautiful in the world: we suggest to pay a visit to Monteriggioni, Colle in Val D'Elsa and San Gimignano.
